KS3 Bookclub – Animal Farm & Magnus Chase and the Sword of Summer

For use as a group discussion, as points to consider with your child/ren or on your own. The main themes running through this compare and contrast session are fighting for what you believe in, control and power over others, what it means to be part of a whole.

We also did a short thought experiment on responsibility for our actions and freewill – I say short, it depends on how ‘black and white’ your KS3 philosophers are in their thinking. My group were quite hard nosed about things, which made for a shorter discussion than I had imagined. On the other hand, the initial discussions went on longer than I expected too, so it all evened out.

You might want to leave the thought experiments for another day if they are starting to flag though…
